Debate Fallout: Media ‘Pampering’ of Obama Leaves Him Weak, Clueless, Unprepared

Watching the first debate last night between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, I couldn’t help thinking about how tough the media (not to mention the Republican Party) has been on Romney while Obama has been given a pass by the media.

The military has a saying. The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in battle.

Romney has been hit by everything his Republican rivals could throw at him during the Republican Primary. He not only sweat, he came away bruised and even bloody. The liberal Mainstream Media has been on an anti-Romney feeding frenzy all year. Every tough and potentially embarrassing question has been thrown at Romney with great vigor. Mitt Romney has been tested over and over again in fires as hot as they come.

And he is still standing.

Barack Obama’s greatest challenge to date was an appearance on “The View” where he faced Elisabeth Hasselbeck who dared ask Obama:

“Some would ask is it unfair to assume that Mitt Romney may fail the middle class when statistically speaking, they’d argue that your administration is failing the middle class,” Hasselbeck said. “How do you respond to that?”

(There is a video of this question here. The body language of the Libs on the set is telling.)

Obama smugly brushes her question off with his usual platitudes and all the Liberals (including Michelle) nod in agreement as if Obama had actually said something of significance.

And Conan O’Brien attacked Hasselbeck on his show that night saying”

“Who the hell’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck… She won a reality show… she didn’t even win! She was, like, fifth!”

And went on and on degrading the woman for asking Obama a hard question.

And the rare appearances in front of the Washington Press Corps (pronounced ‘corpse’) are tightly controlled and scripted with easy lobs across the net intended to allow Obama to “slam” them back with a pre-scripted answer with never even the hint of a journalistic follow up question to challenge the truth-challenged answers Obama usually gives. Just a smile and a nod and a good chance of asking another softball question the next time Obama graces the country with a presser.

And this has gone on for more than 4 years.

And last night, there were challenges to Obama’s answers. There were stark reminders of his failures that have been ignored by the media so as not to make Obama look bad.

Last night, there was no Joy Behar or Whoopi Goldberg to look on lovingly in amazement and complete agreement as Obama gave his answers that actually (as usual) were complete B.S.

No, there was only the constant and piercing stare from Mitt Romney, his face set in a smile that gave no hint of sneer that would have been more appropriate and well deserved.

There was only Mitt Romney with a Google-like command of facts and figures and an ever ready anecdote about a real American struggling in the Obama economy behind the polite smile and the stare that told Obama “I am listening to and parsing every single word you say”.

And as Romney spewed facts and figures and forced Obama to listen as a heavy dose of the truth and reality that has been the last four years was enumerated, backed up by facts and numbers, and forced down the throat of the person responsible for more waste and spending, more political paybacks to Unions and “Greenie” Obama supporters than at any time in our history.

And even on “ObamaCare” – a term Obama now embraces, no doubt the result of some focus group’s wonkery.

What became crystal clear in the debate last night was that Obama’s knowledge and involvement stops at 40,000 feet. He presents his vision of what he wants based on years of honing his anti-Capitalistic views in the halls of Academia and in the living rooms of Chicago’s smarmiest mud-slingers and corrupt political operatives who have proven again and again that they are willing to lie, steal and cheat to win.

Obama has no capacity to understand the details in implementing his grand plans. He leaves the details to others.

Mitt Romney exposed Obama’s complete lack of understanding of even the most basic principles of economics, jobs and how things actually work. The truth is, Obama told Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi he wanted some type of Health Care bill and left the details to them. This is not leadership. A leader must understand that giving orders to execute his vision without a clear plan to implement them and an analysis of the consequences is an unwise move. Sometimes in war, the cost to take a hill is too great.

Obama never considered the cost. He never tried and he never even wanted to look at the details.

And Romney displayed his business experience and the depth of understanding he commands about every decision.

Romney and Obama are both men of vision. But unlike Obama, Romney is also a detail oriented guy. He’s is not going to make a decision without knowing the full and complete consequences of any action from top to bottom. Obama is either lazy or incapable of looking at a problem below the top layer. He prefers to make a speech about some lofty concept or goal and leave the details to others.

Romney first learns the details before he considers the overall plan.

Romney is a leader, Obama is a dreamer.

Mitt Romney has been required to justify every action to investors and board members his whole career. That has required a depth of knowledge well beyond the “concept” level. He has had to have details and justifications for every dime he has spent – because it was other people’s (investors) money.

Obama has skated along unchallenged his whole life.

The clear winner last night was Mitt Romney. He was the only presidential material on the stage. Obama was an empty podium.

This was far more than “the challenger usually has the advantage”. This was Obama hitting a wall.
